First Doctor's Appointment

Today Madison had her first appointment with her pediatrician. She now weighs 4 lbs 13 ozs!!! She has been eating very well. She has started to sleep longer at night and sometimes sleeps 4 or 5 hours straight. The doctor said we can let her sleep because she is doing so well. Jason and I were very happy with this. :) She has grown too. She is 17 in long. She has already grown out of some of her preemie outfits. Wow! We have another appointment in 2 weeks. Thank you for everyones prayers. Maddie is doing great!

Homecoming!

Room in at the hospital
Sleeping in her bassinet at home!

After a room in at the hospital last night, we got to bring Maddie home today at around 3pm. As soon as we left the hospital we had our first adventure as parents. It all started with the fact that Maddie has had episodes of apnea where she will stop breathing and her heart rate drops. It is fairly common in all premies. Because of this, she was sent home with a monitor to let us know if she stops breathing. The alarm normally wakes her up and she is fine. On the way home, the alarm went off for longer than it ever had before and Kellie could not get her to breathe again so we had to pull over. After a few seconds(which seemed like eternity) she came back around. Janet suggested that she didn't have an episode but rather her face fell forward and closed off her air supply which makes perfect sense...she's a little small for her car seat. Once she came back around and became pink again(she had turned blue) we continued on. I thought Kellie would pass out from hyperventalating so my main concern at that point was getting home. First we ran into cops directing trafic at a school which held us up around 5 minutes. When we got through that we got stuck behind a stalled truck at an intersection. Kellie suggested we take the highway at that point and to cut through a parking lot..which I did but then I got stuck because an ambulance and firetruck were coming through and stoping traffic. I thought we'd never make it home. We finally did and I am happy to report that she has not had a single episode since last night. We are SO glad she is finally home. Thanks for all your prayers.

Madison's Two Week Birthday

She's now behind bars and on the bottle....in a crib and sucking from a bottle 6 times a day! She's still gaining weight and the doctor thinks she'll be home early next week. We are hoping for the end of this week though. We have now taken 180 pictures - an average of 90 per week of her life. I'm afraid we are setting the bar a little high for our next one.....
